Last Days in Yonezawa

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

Monday we went to the mission school in Oguni. We got to meet some of the students, ride their back hill (sticky, wet snow!) and talk about God with them. Most of them aren`t Christians but were curious to talk to us about our faith.

Back in Yonezawa we went out for dinner with Takashi from Zeail, it was great to spend some more time with him.

Tuesday was bluebird and Travis and Moni went riding. Everyone else was either sick or injured…Michelle - Knee; Bruce and Jesse - cold/flu; Seiya - a visit to the dentist. Travis and Moni had a great morning riding with some guys from Zeail, but in the afternoon Trav crashed on the spine and dislocated his shoulder! Its unbelievable really, all 3 days that we rode in Yonezawa someone from our team went to the hospital. I know snowboarding is dangerous and accidents happen, but I really think this could be part of spiritual attack.
There were also other things happening to the SfC leaders. Please pray for us and for the Christians here. Pray especially for the discouragement that so easily comes with sickness and injury. tảΗjAsƂl̓Xm[{[hɍs܂Bق̃o[͒qⵂĂ񂾁Bl͂ЂAaƂi͂ЂA͎҂ɁEEƁBsƂl͂yhd`k̎qƒ̃Xm{y񂾂񂾂ǁAߌs͌EPB񂾁IzgMȂˁBlđŃXm{3ƂeB[̒Na@̂bɂȂȂāBmɃXm[{[h͊댯ANVfg͂‚̂ǁA͐ΗIȐ킢ƎvBreb̃[_[ɂ͂قɂ¢낢남BĂ񂾁Bl̂߂ɁA܂̃NX`̂߂ɋFBĂBBɕaCŖlȂ悤ɁB
Tuesday night we had a great dinner and SfC Bible study at Makikos house. It was a great wrap up to our time in Yonezawa. The team was so blessed by everyone we stayed with.

First Descent of Travis Mtn

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

After the Mochituki on Sunday we had a free afternoon and were enjoying the latest blizzard to hit this town. The host family that Travis had been staying with had been asking us to ride down a small mountain behind their house. We were happy to oblige! After bootpacking up the ridge we were rewarded with some legendary Yonezawa freshies.

Mochituki with Keisen church

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

After church on Sunday we had a special dinner with the Keisen church people. They showed us how to make Mochi…basically, you pound rice into a sticky paste and then eat it like dumplings in soup. yummy! We have been so blessed by the generosity of this church family!

Many times our plans do not take shape like we want them too. Today was a good example of this. Junko and the SfC Yamagata crew had organised a great snowboard day at Yonezawa ski area. We had snowboard lessons in the morning and were doing a couple runs in the early afternoon when an accident occured. This time it was Michelles turn; she twisted her knee really hard on a toeside turn gone bad, and once again we got to meet the Ski Patrol. It seems like this is a daily occurence for the SfCI team. They are getting to know us well.
Because of this accident; Michelle, Bruce and Junko had to miss the photo session planned for the afternoon. But thanks be to God that our plans were not to be disrupted. The remaining team had a great time and got to meet some more of the local riders. After shooting photos of everyone, they all went to a resturant to view the shots. They had many opportunities to share with the riders the purpose for being there. God is good! He works all things to His glory.
And yes, Michelle is recovering well, there is no fractures or dislocations and we are hoping that God heals her quickly.

Does it snow like this in heaven?

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

After a travel day and going riding our first day here, we finally have a chance to update the blog. All of us are split up and staying in different homestays, we are all loving the Japanese hospitality.
Already we have made some good contacts and have spent a couple hours riding with the guys from Zieal snowboard shop. Pray that we have some more time to build a friendship with them.
We have also given a couple lessons, taught an English class and had our first onsen.
Tomorrow will be a busy day at the Keisen Church and then we have our snowboard outreach on Saturday.
All of us are doing well, Seiya is a little sore but recovering fine….you gotta watch out for those trees.
Thanks for your prayers…..you wont believe the snow in this place!

He said he crushed a tree

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

Please pray for our boy Seiya who whilst riding with the team crashed into a tree. He ended up in hospital, he was able to send me a text so he obviously still has movement in his texting finger! He is OK, thankfully. You can look at his blog if you want to keep up with the little rascal http://seiya1102.blogspot.com/
This really reminds us that the enemy is looking to attack us anyway he can. Keep praying for the team, SFC Japan and its leadership, the camp, the comp……..

6am Liftlines

Sunday, February 5th, 2006

Hi kids! Bruce here. Just wanted to give you the latest on our trip. On Friday we arrived in Kyoto and went to the Crossroads Chapel that is held at Kyoto International University. Moni shared her testimony and we had a great time hanging out with everyone. At 10pm we loaded our gear and went to get on the night bus bound for Washitagate Ski Area. By 4am we had arrived and by 5am we were getting our lift tickets. Lets say we were not fully rested! The lifts were actually running by 6am, its crazy! We did a couple hours of lessons before 9am had rolled around. This was not your average day at a Ski Resort for us. We had a great time with the group from Kyoto, there was approx 18 in total, and a few that were non-christians.
This morning we had church and then curry for lunch afterwards. Tonight is a youth service and Jesse will be sharing his testimony.
Thanks for the prayers!
